Severely mentally ill, Simon Cartwright should never have been in Sydney’s Silverwater jail. A medical check could have saved him. ‘It was torture,’ his family says

That passive headline is annoying. The guards neglected, sadistically tortured and killed Simon. Strong, active language is fine in this case.

They literally denied him water while dying. Truly evil shit.

Guards should not be able to deny water.

If an inmate is being wasteful then water could be supplied another way but there is no circumstance where denying water is just.

The cell logs sound exactly like the kind of lazy cunts I expect to be working as a guard.

Are you sure? They could be serious criminals in there like people that stole a week’s food, or maybe got into a fistfight. What would society come to if evil sadists couldn’t deny water to such people because they’re bored on their shift?

      We can’t have hydrated criminals.

They denied medical treatment and water then dismissed him until he died in agony. That’s just foul.

There need to be some actual reforms because vulnerable people keep being killed in jail.

I can’t believe there were no rules about denying water
