So Newpipe, SmartTube, Nintendo emulators…
Clones of opensource apps bundled with ads that violates license is OK, but restricting everyone to build and test apps from source so it can test new features and report any issues is too risky for the user

Technology@lemmy.world•Google will block sideloading of unverified Android apps starting next yearEnglish
32·8 个月前The opensource apps like Newpipe, SmartTube, termux and many others are the “malware”, not the ones with binary blobs on PlayStore that fork VLC, Newpipe and many opensource apps illegally, supposedly “verified” but don’t follow opensource license like GPL, creating fake clones with ads and (real) malware.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google will block sideloading of unverified Android apps starting next yearEnglish
83·8 个月前Right, only install “verified” from Google Play, but that is where malware is, other 3rd party app stores like F-Droid, that really verify apps are at risk of getting killed by Google

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Dedicated music server or all-in-one media server?English
3·8 个月前Do One Thing Well: Each program should focus on a single task and perform it effectively.
At the moment im not hosting a music server, but used to use Navidrome, it worked fine and used a small footprint.
Having all in one it’s more issues to solve, if something breaks, everything breaks.
Having all on Jellyfin is more convenient. But adding hundreds or thousands of songs along with movies and episodes will create a huge database, more resources used, slower searches

Most teenagers just want to access that porn or piracy site, and mostly don’t know anything about privacy and spyware.
You can try to restrict people to access sites or services, but they always try to find other ways even if that put then in a bigger risk

As long a comic reader, this movie portraits everything that Superman is.
Instead of god on earth like the Man of Steel, this Superman care about everyone even the squirrel.
And the other characters they nailed each one, Guy Gardner personality is exactly like the comics, best Lex Luthor i have seen in movies (and it’s bald), and of course the best character Krypto, stole every scene when it shows.
Looking forward for Supergirl, supposedly based on “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” which a great comic

Adding to this DDL store the content for a limited time. Some of the content after one week is almost impossible to find
For me there’s no “get caught”, and many stuff are only available trough torrent, like some old/obscure movies (some could take a week to download), other only trough DDL like some UK TV shows.
Also for automate software like Radarr/Sonarr you only have torrents or nbz

politics @lemmy.world•Trump Says Ukraine Will Surrender Land to Putin for Peace
8·8 个月前There’s a reason why Russia evaded Ukraine, because decisions like this.
Transnistria in Moldova is a Russian outpost since the 90’s,
Chechnya didn’t have any backlash when tried to breakup from russia instead cities got flattened.
Russia tried to invade Georgia, after failing Russia only got a slat on the wrist.
When russia invaded Ukraine in 2014 no one done any pressure instead more oil and gas traded giving more money to Russia.Since the 90s Europe has been seen weak without the help of USA, and Russia can do whatever they want.
If Ukraine fall in Russia hands then Moldova is next, and others will folow

Linux@programming.dev•Arch Linux Users at Risk Again as AUR Hit by Another RAT
21·9 个月前Just the case of the packages being removed only a few hours after been published just makes my point of “trusted users” reviewing and reporting then.
And is not only an archlinux/AUR problem, the same happens with python pip, npm, dockerhub, github… With bigger popularity, bigger the target.
These days after the success of Steamdeck many users switched to Linux, and many of those started using arch or based distros like EndeavourOS because some one on reddit, YouTube or other said is the best for new hardware and you can find everything you need on AUR.
New users won’t review scripts or PKGBUILD, that’s gibberish, just search and install, and a few hours could be too late for some.I don’t care if Linux loses or gains popularity, but if there’s no guard rails of some kind of control things could get worse, and even end AUR as it is now.
Having people control what’s published or not, probably not the best solution, but leaving it as a wild west also not

Linux@programming.dev•Arch Linux Users at Risk Again as AUR Hit by Another RAT
61·9 个月前Arch also warns uses about AUR, use at at your own risk, and can break your system.
My approach isn’t definitely not the best solution, I was saying this is only the beginning, and with other arch based distros also using AUR only gets worse, if there’s any moderation and some kind of package control before publishing then when thins get real bad maybe too late and arch starts loosing users.
Now is just some packages, later could be some popular package take overs or some kinda spoofing of other packages.
I use arch BTW (since 2011), and
DebianArmbian on Raspberry Pi, one is rock solid the other sometimes break with updates

Android uses Apache License 2.0, which means vendors can modify and distribute without publishing their modifications, like include proprietary blobs and other proprietary code.
It’s like using Google Chrome instead of Chromium.
Yes you can debloat the system, but many system apps can’t be disabled without breaking the system, and ROMs based on AOSP the code can be reviewed or modified and built it yourself.
Xiaomi and mostly stock ROMs these days come bundled with ads, and apps that collect user data, even with debloat or DNS blackhole isn’t 100% private or better than a custom ROM.
That’s why Graphene and CalyxOS exist.

I see that people is blaming Temu without reading the article or even seeing the product photo.
That’s not for hair brush, it’s a power tool for cleaning appliances (bathtubs, kitchen…)
The kid picked the tool and use it on her hair, the mother is blaming the online store for the product instead of having more careful leaving power tools with kids.
Not saying that Temu products are good or not. But if you leave power tools with kids and something happens don’t blame the store
