One of the best pizzas I’ve ever eaten was a Hawaiian with jalapeños. Yours looks delicious.

Comic Books@lemmy.world•What is your favorite Marvel Comics superhero?English
5·2 years agoA recent entry, but I adore Ms. Marvel. She’s very much like Peter Parker when he was introduced—teenager, dealing with real-world problems as well as superhero problems—except that she’s also a Pakistani immigrant living in New Jersey, so she has culture clash issues to deal with on top of the rest. The best parts of her story are when her superhero life intersects with her family/friends life, just like Peter Parker back in the 60s.
Not a fan of the new “she’s actually a mutant and being drawn into the Krakoa X-Men storylines”. I love the Krakoa X-men storylines but I think they don’t fit with her very grounded character.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I am 50 years old and I'm about to try Taco Bell for the first time. What should I try first?
2·2 years agoHonestly? Just their basic tacos. Maybe the Doritos version if they still have those. But just get a couple of the hard tacos with some Fire sauce. If you like those, you may like other things on the menu; if you don’t, you probably won’t like any of it. They’re Taco Bell distilled.

Comic Books@lemmy.world•The roxxon age of comics begins May 2024English
4·2 years agoOn one hand, Roxxon are badly overplayed as villains. On the other hand, I’ve enjoyed every Al Ewing work I’ve ever read. So on balance, sure, I’ll check it out.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•You win a dinner of your choice from a personal chef who can make you any food you desire. What would you order?
5·2 years agoThis is an obnoxious answer, but Gordon Ramsay yells so much about everyone else getting Beef Wellington wrong, I’d like to have his Beef Wellington, but made by him under the exact same conditions where the contestants got it wrong, with no special privileges.
I’m genuinely angry about how true that is.

Antique Memes Roadshow@lemmy.world•This is the earliest memory i have of seeing a proper meme
40·2 years agoThere was a show at the NYC Fringe Festival, “I can haz cheeseburger, the musical”, that focused on the walrus’s quest to find his bucket. It wasn’t good exactly, but it was very of its moment.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•This page in my kid’s book from school to learn how to read.English
83·2 years agoSee, I thought it was mildly infuriating because the images aren’t “many types of airplanes”, they’re only a few types of airplanes repeated at different sizes or different angles.

Gaming@beehaw.org•What game company from your childhood do you remember with fondness?
5·2 years agoAspyr! I was a Mac user in an era that was 95% Windows, and Aspyr brought quality games over to our side of the pond. I remember they ported Alpha Centauri in particular, but there were lots of other ones too.
Also Bungie back in that era—they were Mac-exclusive and putting out the amazing Marathon series. I was heartbroken when I saw the trailer for the new “Marathon” game that looks nothing like the originals.
That looks really good! Is it oyster sauce?

Health - Resources and discussion for everything health-related@lemmy.world•Obesity drug Wegovy cut risk of serious heart problems by 20%, study findsEnglish
122·2 years agoSo your belief is that nobody who plays sports ever dies of heart disease? Yeah, no. Heart disease can be reduced through exercise (but never cut by 100%—that part of your post is just flat-out wrong). At times it can also be worsened by it—see the marathon runners who drop dead partway through the race.
The drug in question also isn’t a pill, but that’s the least part of your medical ignorance.

RollerCoasters@lemm.ee•Cedar Fair and Six Flags potentially mergingEnglish
5·2 years agoWow. I hope the resulting parks end up being run like Cedar Fair parks, not like Six Flags parks. I’ve never been cut in line at a Cedar Fair park. At Six Flags parks it happens constantly.

Games@sh.itjust.works•Thoughts on Marathon? Sorry, I know I'm late...English
8·2 years agoWell damn. I loved the original trilogy and I have been saying for ages that I want a remake using modern game design and technology. But based on that website and trailer, I don’t think I’m getting what I wanted. Marathon had a multiplayer mode, yes, but the core was a single player story that made you feel like you were all alone in the world. This looks like not that.

Science Fiction@lemmy.world•People in the 50s, 70s speak differently from now, why dont more authors or tv shows use fictional accents?
30·2 years ago“A Clockwork Orange”, famously, was set in a post-Cold War setting where the West and Russia had grown close, and the who,s thing was written in a dialect that was part English and part Russian. But I agree with the other poster that in general it’s too much work.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Where can I find recipes without the author's personal anecdotes?
5·2 years agoI use an app called “Recipe Keeper”. Once the recipe page with all of the garbage has loaded, I hit the “share to Recipe Keeper” button, and it strips out all of the garbage and just shows the recipe.

This is true, and I’m genuinely angry about that.
