Gotta always have a lot more volume in photosynthesizer corpses than higher trophic levels no matter what. Us high trophic creatures can contribute with our corpses but not by much.

politics @lemmy.world•‘Empty and vapid’ CDC finally responds to hantavirus outbreak. But experts say it’s too little, too late
20·4 days agoWell yeah, compare this to ebola response if you want to see how clear the institutional rot is. That was also a pretty low risk threat in the US but hospitals were clearly indicated the plan for outbreaks and given training metrics and were designated as local response sites. CDC was on the ground and public health gears moved.

21·10 days agoIt’s got negative growth potential for the most part after it got retail chunks taken out of it by those with actual warehouses and logistics chains. It’s fundamentals are solid for a person to person sales platform and for used things and collectibles. But the big revenue was always as an online retailer and it sucks for that. Wall Street hates public companies with okay fundamentals that need to reposition themselves to a smaller market. And this meme suit says he’s gonna turn it into an Amazon killer by merging it with his company that similarly has negative growth potential in its previous core market but has found some success in collectibles.

Right. There’s totally no major evasion of these export restrictions going on. 😉

World News@lemmy.world•Mexico City is sinking so fast that the subsidence can be spotted from spaceEnglish
5·11 days agoAll of the clay gets compressed which means the water can’t drain into the ground anymore and the underground drainage canals get damaged. And then the city turns back into a fucking lake after it goes between drought and flooding because the only way to create a surface water reservoir is to turn the now sunken city back into a goddamn toxic and polluted lake/marsh. That or attempt to geoengineer it into a desert which also defeats the purpose of human habitation. Eventually “fixing” the problems will become more expensive than what they’re worth for more development but nobody really knows where that inflection point lies for the valley of Mexico.
Flour and water, meemaw. Flour and water.
What’s the fish doin’.
I’ve had it with these motherfucking Quetzalcoatls on this motherfucking airship.
What I like about bleach is it isn’t a poison. It’s reactive oh yeah, so concentrations directly into your esophagus and stomach is a big deal. But while your cupcakes may not taste good, phone might not be killing you with them. You could potentially eat a lot of bleach cupcakes with no ill effect if they’ve already oxidized all the other ingredients within them and created some chloramines that will be undelicious. Just depends on how strong your 1/3 a cup of bleach is.

191·18 days agoIt never pretended to be. It’s a platform for broadcasting actions based on usernames not secure communications. Kinda cross purposes to think you can effectively do both. Why I liked that kbin was very upfront and let users see all engagement right from the post. It can provide a level of anonymity if you want (though community moderation resists this because strong anonymous protections just leads to abuse), but privacy for that persona isn’t part of the plank.

Shitty Movie Details@lemmy.world•Bill & Ted's air guitar riffs were mimed, as the actors didn't actually know how to play. The scenes were dubbed over by professional air guitarists in post production.

You’re crowing at clouds. If you think some shitty reddit webcomic is a cultural zeitgeist you’re delusional.
