I can’t resist doing this every time I find a cup fungus. Titillating. I’d love to eat this species but I have never found it growing anywhere other than on cow dung or right beside it.
If you’ve never seen this, its not actually the spores being blown off, the blowing triggers something in the mushroom and after half a second it sends up a big plume of spores. I don’t actually know about the mechanics of this.
That is so neat, I didn’t know they do this!! Maybe I can remember to try this next time I stumble on some cup fungus
