The story you just linked either glazes over or outright ignores these two pieces of fact. While talking about how facts matter so much.

Like hundreds of other trans athletes, Smith was hounded on social media for competing in women’s sports. The aggrieved website and X account, “HeCheated,” tracked Smith’s diving history while deadnaming her and disparaging her motives and identity.

In February, the account announced with satisfaction that Middlebury had removed Smith’s diving team profile, following the NCAA’s ban on trans women athletes competing.

And the story for this particular post is all about that particular website and it’s effect on trans people.

There’s no conclusion to “jump to” here. It’s pretty obvious she was being bullied by people who hate her just for being who she was. Which includes our goddamn government run by the the most inhuman monsters this country has scene since the civil war.

The implication of the article and conclusion that most would come to upon reading it is that her death was the direct result of what “HeCheated” did.

It’s not an unreasonable conclusion. Their actions were despicable. It almost certainly contributed.

But there are many pitfalls racing to find a single “reason” for any tragedy, including false accusations and bullying the wrong people.

Though in this case, that website probably deserves whatever hate it gets, either way.

These accusations aren’t false. They’re all too fucking true. And I am quite comfortable laying a considerable amount of blame for this woman’s suicide on that website the people behind that website and the people in our government and in our country who treat trans people like they are some kind of aberration that needs to be stamped out or destroyed.

Seriously fuck those people, and fuck you for sitting here and trying pass yourself off as a friend to trans people while tut tutting us for wanting justice out of the monsters who made her life hell.

Listen, I get it. I’m literally trans myself. I’ve been torn down and bullied to the point of suicide attempts multiple times in my life. I’ve lost friends to this.

I think you’re missing the point. I’m not trying to defend anyone whose goal is to harm others, and I never would.

I’ve also seen countless angry internet mobs armed with the first headline they read cause harm to the wrong people over and over again. All I’m suggesting is to stay critical and let the experts collect the evidence before lighting the torches.

If nothing else, stay measured for your own sake. This constant barrage of awful news is almost always more harmful to us than to the people causing all the harm.
