Sorry for being absent from the past couple threads, I was traveling and busy and it’s just been crazy.

The song Universal Flame by Devin Townsend passed through to say hi while shuffling my entire library the other day and I always forget how much I absolutely love this song.

I have suddenly developed the urge to make experimental/noise music… so I’ve been acquiring weird old equipment, like an old Korg Microkorg, a bunch of guitar pedals, and the sketchiest guitar I’ve ever seen. Turns out a friend I’ve started hanging out with regularly already has his own experimental/noise project, so we’re definitely going to share some ideas. He told me the name of his project but we were really high so of course I forgot lol. I’ll be back to plug his stuff next week it sounded pretty cool.

I finally fixed my turntable last week, and have been spinning some things waiting in my backlog.

    • Lunatic Fringe by Red Rider.
    • Some Soft Cell, after the passing of David Ball. My wife had never heard Sex Dwarf before.
    • Thriller, at the request of my 3 year old.
    • Secret Treaties by Blue Oyster Cult
    • Various other new wave stuff. The Fixx, Thompson Twins, Flock of Seagulls, etc.
    • That new Taylor Swift album about dick.

See that’s the thing, I don’t… In college I played the bass in a joke band, but I don’t actually know “how” to play the bass (or the guitar), properly at least, don’t know anything about music, production, etc. I’m really excited to just completely wing it. I have really good rhythm and was able to learn songs by ear on bass with basic trial-and-error and memorization in the past, interested to see how this translates. A big draw has been the thought of making my own homemade microphones out of random trash and sampling interesting sounds with them. I’ve got a few ideas to run with.

I was instantly intrigued by the name “Ancient Infinity Orchestra”, and I really really like this. I’m a sucker for lots of wind instruments.

Thank you! Yeah, I always love checking out new things, I was excited to take over these weekly posts. Music for me is like what movies or TV shows are to some others, I spend a lot of time listening and reflecting. If you haven’t found it already, there’s a user over at [email protected] who religiously posts things every single day. For the most part they tend to lean on the heavier side, which I very much appreciate as that’s where my main interests lie, but there’s a decent mix if you dig through. I’ve discovered quite a few things over there!

There’s a BMS music/video game competition going on so my music taste’s a bit occupied by it… good thing is there are lots of opportunities for discovering new songs. Submissions heavily lean on rhythm game music and J-music though if that’s not your taste

Here are a couple of (hopefully) good ones I personally liked. Every submission also comes with a “genre” name but half of them are useless…

    • Juka_Box feat. 綜花 - 燐寸と緞帳; genre “Soiree” (actually… I don’t know what this is called, Artcore or sth?). I think this is the projected individual submission winner
    • をしへ; genre “Alternative Rock”. I think a lot of ppl didn’t expect Buddhism Rock so it got a lot of ratings; song is good. Epilepsy warning for MV/BGA
    • Notorious(Nota & TRIAL) - ZERO; genre “LUSTFUL” (actually J-core/Happy Hardcore). Funny ASMR song; my personal favorite of the event so far (but didn’t score super well it seems). Epilepsy warning for MV/BGA
    • uma - The World Tree; genre “Hard Dance”. I’ve listened to a lot of this artist’s music before so I was quite happy for this

There’s still quite a few fan favorites that I haven’t even listened to yet
