When I was a kid McDonald’s had one day a week where a very basic cheeseburger was crazy cheap, so it was normal to see families bring a large bag and buy dozens of them to store in the freezer as the week’s food.
As esteemed rapper Thai Mai Shu once wrote around this time:
I wish today was sunday so I could get a cheeseburger for 39 cent at McDonalds, Baby! And I wish it was it was Wednesday so I could get a hamburger for 29 cent at McDonalds, Baby!
There’s a local chain near me with a delicious item, I will sometimes buy about 5 of them and freeze them (not on some crazy sale), and then toaster oven those hoes on occasion when the lazy hits.
If they had some crazy sale, yeah I’d probably stock up on like 10-15, but it would take me WAAAAAY longer than a week to burn through them all.
Tbf unless you were Jane Goodall-ing that family for a week and observed their mating eating habits, they may similarly stock up and burn through them in like idk ~6mo. (Totally possible you were Jane-ing them, likely if “family” or “worked McD’s.”)
May some of your faith in humanity be restored lol.
When I lived in California, around 2002, seemingly every day another chain had an action where you could get a burger or burrito for a dollar. It was nuts. I knew people who would drive to those every single day (I sometimes went with, which is how I learned about this). Up to 45 minutes of driving to get 1$ jack in the box burgers or whatever was in promo at the time
Can you imagine more dystopian that only having affordable groceries once a year on special day
