Netflix to get AEW?
With Netflix buying Warner Bros. Discovery does this mean Neflix could end up being the streaming home of both WWE and AEW? If so that might be a service worth getting.
We don’t even know if Netflix is gonna be buying Warner Bros. Discovery at this point (given Paramount just began the process of trying a hostile takeover, and either way it goes it requires government
bribesapproval), let alone what the resulting companies coming out of said purchase/merger will look like.Only answer anyone has for this at this moment in time is: Check back in a few years when AEW’s current tv deal is done cause nothing changes for AEW in any way, shape or form until it does.
@GeekFTW well if HBO Max becomes something else in 12-18 months its streaming how will change before then.
There’s likely a clause in WBD/AEW’s media rights contract specifically for that possibility. Media rights deals go through extensive negotiations and scrutiny.
My understanding is Netflix only wants to buy the WB side of WBD, and TNT and TBS are going on the Discovery side. Netflix has also said they were going to keep HBO Max as it’s own thing. I’m guessing once AEW’s deal is up with Max it would be moved to whatever streaming service Discovery is pushing. Before all the talk of the sale I remember hearing talk of WBD launching their own sports streaming service, so if that still happens and Discovery ends up with it I could see AEW landing there.
This is the correct answer, Netflix doesn’t want the cable channels and has requested WBD finish spinning off the cable channels into a new company, Discovery Global, before the close of the Netflix-WB deal.
