separate side of the underhouse, not in brewery. Wet joists though, so i have a blower going from above, fans from below and humidifier at ground zero. I don’t know how fucking long it was leaking though.

Anyone else feel a bit weird seeing their pet listed with a surname? Vet yesterday went a level odder and was addressing them as Sir.

My gentleman caller swung by for a drink of water so I brought out some food in a disposable bowl.

    spoiler

He was excited for pats and hungry but couldn’t finish the whole pouch.

I managed to get a feel of his spine and that boy is knobbly. A few little bald patches in thin fur. And by the snuffly snorty nose, the occasional sneezes, and the creaky meow he might have an upper respiratory infection. He was breathing huffily in excitement while being patted so I think so.

He finished eating and wandered a distance away to wash so I left the remainder out there. I came inside but removed my shoes at the door, and then washed my hands and clothes and showered to avoid bringing any diseases or parasites back to Melbcat.

I need to guess his weight or find parasite treatments that have a wide recommended weight range and see if I can get them in pill form.

Melbcat is being both clingy and sulky. Welcome home cheater…

Edit: She’s now lying on me

I’m now trying to think if I can get him to the vet (as they won’t treat an animal they haven’t seen). But I don’t want to risk sending him to the shelter which would be the outcome.

And the public water is probably infecting any other cat that drinks but there’s not much I can do without overextending myself ie. getting rid of the dispenser and washing an outside bowl daily (without wanting to bring an infectious item inside so I can use hot soapy water)

I have a possum trap if he’s feral level stray. My stray is feral but I’ve nowhere to send him if I catch him so I leave him be and keep the food and water up. He doesn’t immediately flee when I top off his food, so that’s an improvement.

Thanks, I’ve decided not to trap him though as I don’t want to risk him being euthanised by a shelter. The possum traps may also not be safe due to not being designed for cats and he in particular is quite large.

This guy is really friendly, he behaves like a pet. I could have been mistaken about the hissing, it could have been a hiss or it could have been a harsh exhale as he seems to huff and puff when excited.

For now the plan is to get some regular food down him and earn his trust to the point I can give some flea and worm treatment

    Happy thank-fuck-that-week’s-over-day-time-hour day… 🍻

Here’s a new choon. Last single before album goes out in 2 weeks (still gotta finish it lol 😅). This track has main-character-energy and a self indulgent guitar solo. Good summer bop. Enjoy! https://on.soundcloud.com/QmO18X2t0URB1ulcZp

I went outside early to water the garden, and hung my heated throw rug on the line to dry. That was definietly enough outside for the day, although Mr Woof would prefer more. He will have to be content with walking himself around the garden if he wants outdoors time. Both he and Miss Meow are more tolerant of the heat than I am, they’ve both been voluntarily spending time outside.

My little dog likes to bake on the porch mat. When he’s had enough he’ll stroll inside panting and weezing and then dramatically flop down in front of the fan. He’ll repeat that a few times a day.

Same for mine. It’s kind of why those dog walking warning posts irk me. My dog knows what he wants and I respect his agency. He didn’t want to go out on the 40+ days but he’s keen to under 35. I’ve also got a bunch of farmers in the family with kelpies who do no give a fuck.

I don’t even walk my dog when it’s summer. He follows me outside when I go to the letterbox, bins, clothes line. He does 360 laps around the house chasing birds and cats and flies and whatever else he wants to do several times a day.

When it’s cooler weather we do walks around the neighbourhood and the park in the mornings.

If my dog doesn’t want to go for the walk he refuses. I also let him decide where we walk, he gets to choose the directions. Otherwise he sleeps near me most of the time.

He doesn’t like to poo at home being the main reason.

My old kelpie/heeler mix was immune to temperature extremes too. Activity of any sort was preferable to inactivity, regardless of temperature. The double coat helped of course.

Mr Woof has been switching between lying on the grass (there is a little patch at the back that is mostly in shade), lying on the dog bed that’s just outside the window, or he sometimes just sits on the door mat looking in through the dog door. He doesn’t like clinking noises so he’ll generally self-evacuate to the back yard when I’m in the kitchen, but he’ll keep an eye on me and come back inside if I sit down.

Miss Meow prefers lying on the concrete for some reason.

And homemade mayo. The mashed hard yolks are the emulsifier and very delicious too. The whites of hard boiled eggs otoh, can get in the bin. I usually donate these to the maggies who def will eat them where I will not.

Recipe for a Salad by Rev.Sydney Smith (circa mid 1800s)

To make this condiment your poet begs The pounded yellow of two hard-boil’d eggs; Two boiled potatoes, passed through kitchen sieve, Smoothness and softness to the salad give. Let onion atoms lurk within the bowl, And, half-suspected, animate the whole. Of mordant mustard add a single spoon, Distrust the condiment that bites so soon; But deem it not, thou man of herbs, a fault To add a double quantity of salt; Four times the spoon with oil of Lucca crown, And twice with vinegar procur’d from town; And lastly o’er the flavour’d compound toss A magic soupçon of anchovy sauce. Oh, green and glorious! Oh, herbaceous treat! Twould tempt the dying anchorite to eat; Back to the world he’d turn his fleeting soul, And plunge his fingers in the salad-bowl! Serenely full, the epicure would say, `Fate cannot harm me, I have dined today.’

They don’t make recipies like that nowadays, but his advice is sound and the ingredients can be smashed up with a stick blender to make a very very nice mayo. Just use the same spoon throughout and you can’t go wrong. I usually find one only anchovy is enough - more and you can taste them and you shouldn’t - they’re there for the umami. Half an onion/shallot finely chopped is enough too.

Fried - set yolk and crispy edges OR flipped with a semi runny yolk. Poached - runny yolk but the whites have got to be set. Scrambled & omelette - creamy and semi liquid. Coddled - runny yolk. In shakshuka and huevos rancheros, as per poached.

Depends, if its a fried egg for like breakfast then hard, but if its in a burger then probably hard.
If it was on nasi goreng, has to hard or in a phad thai, hard.
If its a toad-in-the-hole its gotta be hard.
However if its boiled for curried egg sandwiches or ramen noodles, i prefer hard.
If its just the yolk over steak tartare, raw.

      Seriously all of them.

If fried, over easy is a waste of a good yolk but I’ll still eat it.

A bit runny if it’s safe, but for caution I’d usually cook it a bit more. Australia is pretty good on food safety iirc but I don’t know if it’s quite safe to eat raw or *undercooked eggs like you can in Japan

Hard boiled or even overcooked are also fine, I’d be happy to eat all of it

What do you do with your pets when you want intimate time solo or with a partner? Shoo them out and shut the door or let them watch?

My dog is not allowed in my bedroom at anytime so he sits outside of the door moaning. It’s disturbing.

When we had our cat (RIP), she was locked in the garage. Too far from the boudoir to hear the noise.

With the dog (RIP) stairs we’re blocked off and he slept all the time.

In other words. Don’t worry. They don’t know.

I think I have set up my new phone well enough to start the transfer soon, it’s so fucking invasive, creeping into every corner of people’s lives, default is set up so that your whole life is digital and mostly on apple , not irl , I have switched nearly everything off

which is ironic cos i love the apple Severance series

now just have to delete a few hundred unwanted pics on my old phone and I’m pretty much set
