Another week in the books. Let’s chat about manga in the general discussion thread! Feel free to use this thread for questions, comments, recommendations, etc.
Like normal, please be careful with spoilers. I wrote a guide about spoilers in case you need a refresher on how to handle them (also linked in the sidebar).
Only 5 chapter’s so far but it has already some great moments: Days Off In The Dragon’s Stomach
After a few weeks of lazing around I’m finally starting my cleanup duty following the fall of Bato and MangaPark. I’ve been slowly migrating some of the series I followed on those sites though, like with every migration, not all of them are available or up to date in other places. I should really start downloading chapters for unread titles again.
Yeah, I have a graveyard of series left on bato and comick that just haven’t ever made it onto another site that I know of. I go in and check every now and then again, but lots were either simply abandoned by the scanlators or they moved to something like a private discord, which may as well not exist.
I read Sensei’s Pious Lie over the weekend.
It’s… alright. It definitely gripped me with its heavy subject material, but in the end I don’t think it knew what to say, but some of what it did seem to say seemed almost harmful.
spoiler (and trigger warning for SA mention)
I can definitely get behind the victims’ behaviour as some form of trauma response, but I don’t understand the rapist’s fiancee. She found her best friend beaten to a pulp by him and knows what more he did, to other women as well, but she decides that she still wants to be with him and loves him?
I do like that this manga didn’t place the blame on the victims for not reporting him, but I don’t know what to feel about him reporting himself. Kind of feels like saying “Just wait it out”.
So many plot threads were also started and subsequently ignored or left unfinished making the ending even more unsatisfying.
I also picked up My Favourite Vtuber Is Scary IRL. A fun little manga.
Also continued with some new volumes of other manga I’m reading:
- Imaizumi Brings All The Gals To His House: what started out as a hentai manga, is now also a pretty good ecchi harem romance manga. Actually enjoying it quite a bit.
- In The Land Of Leadale
- Kill The Villainess
- Beware The Villainess
Alright, it’s been a bit since I dropped into one of my own threads here to talk about some series. I managed to do quite a bit of catching up on series this past week. So, some quick thoughts:
- Boyish Girlfriend - Very cute still and delivering slow but steady progress (plus bonus potential side ship).
- Let Me Be Single in Peace! - I am really enjoying this one a lot still. This MC is weirdly compelling despite how extremely genre-aware he is.
- The Villainess Just Wants to Live in Peace! - I think this is the only manhwa I am reading right now, but it’s been keeping my attention. The Villainess is more interesting than a lot of others in this space and there is some good political intrigue.
- Out-of-Place Artifacts of the Otherworldly Labyrinth - Big fan of this one despite the release being all kinds of inconsistent. Very silly premise that knows it is silly.
- Slime Saint - Jelly is just as expressive as ever. Glad to be caught up to this one.
- EXP Is Golden - I can’t remember if I have talked about this one in the past, but I find it really compelling. This isn’t just a copy/paste of Overlord, it is doing some neat things. Looking forward to more.
- I Started Working a Housekeeping Job and Ended up Being Liked by the Family of the Most Beautiful Girl in School - Binged this series this past week and had fun with it. A very precocious younger brother character acts as a great wingman.
