Exactly! The speaker sounds like crap, but it may need a thorough cleaning when I get back home.

It’s pretty interesting to see how people give and interpret ratings in the US vs. Asia for example. In the US it seems like less than a mid-four is a gamble, in Japan you get some great restaurants hanging around at 3.0+. The reviews will say like “Everything was perfect great food, 3 stars”.

World News@lemmy.world•New tourist tax will soon make visiting Iceland more expensiveEnglish
7·2 years agoIceland is quite beautiful, I didn’t camp but I recall the park areas being quite fierce about not venturing off of walking paths to protect sensitive things like moss that take forever to grow. That may be a reason why they don’t allow dispersed camping. I’d say still go, it was beautiful in the winter and I didn’t find it too crowded or unbearably cold.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•"... and for some reason, we're still friends." What's your story?
16·2 years agoI was new to a school and decided to skip class with a bunch of classmates I barely knew. One guy goes to the bathroom and comes back and stands right behind me. I look up and he is completely naked except for a sock on his dick hovering right above my head.
We’ve been great friends for close to 18 years and I just got to meet his two kids.

Creepy Wikipedia@lemmy.world•Crooked Forest - Pine grove that grows in a deformed, curved manner for unexplained reasonsEnglish
3·2 years agoUnrelated, but Native Americans did this in the US to mark trails. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trail_trees
It’s cool that you can still easily identify them to this day.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Painted nails have the same vibe and uglyness as painted teeth.
11·2 years agoWeird take but definitely gonna be unpopular, haha. Does that apply to tooth whitening?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is a hobby you enjoy, but seems too quirky or obscure to bring up in most conversations?
1·2 years agoThanks for the tips! Is it pretty easy to find movement specific service instructions or do you just learn to recognize parts and common build methods?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is a hobby you enjoy, but seems too quirky or obscure to bring up in most conversations?
61·2 years agoYeah so an example of throwing on aftermarket parts:
Start with your base watch, I picked up a cheap Invicta dive watch like so https://files.catbox.moe/bnxgcp.jpg
Slap on some aftermarket hands, bezel, faced, and sand the bracelet for a nice brushed finish. https://files.catbox.moe/mo52xw.jpg
This is a watch restoration I was attempting. Did a poor job but learned quite a bit. https://files.catbox.moe/9bv3pa.jpg https://files.catbox.moe/2kwaka.jpg

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What could be the reason behind the Cyberattack against the space telescopes in Hawaii and Haiti?
1·2 years agoIt could be a lot of things ranging from state threat actors looking for a toehold into a network or to cost the government time and resources or people doing it for the lulz.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is a hobby you enjoy, but seems too quirky or obscure to bring up in most conversations?
33·2 years agoNot too quirky or obscure but I really just like to fix shit. Clocks, washing machines, cars, crooked door, hole in a sweater, electronics… Nothing is outside of my interest.
On the more obscure side I like to fiddle with wrist watches by adding aftermarket parts and modifying their overall look.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People who eat bugs: What do they taste like?
5·2 years agoIt depends entirely on the bug and moreso the seasoning. I’ve eaten my share of ants and crickets in Mexico and South East Asia and the taste can vary wildly. I recall tasting the seasoning more than any buggy flavor.
On a side note, raw goat blood soup tastes exactly like you think it would… never again.

News@lemmy.world•Kellogg’s is going to war over Mexico’s nutrition label rules. A similar fight is coming to the U.S.English
20·2 years agoI saw this while in Mexico and really liked the idea. I was then immediately bummed out when realizing almost everything had that label on it and buying food without excess sugar and salt was a lot trickier.

I didn’t know about Alba before but after doing some reading I’m really liking their vintage watch lines. I wish I had paid more attention to the buckets of “as-is” watches in the markets.
