Just about everything to do with spaceflight can be so unintuitive, which is simultaneously what makes it interesting as well as frustrating at times :)

There was a lot to digest, so I might be wrong, but I was under the impression that he was referring to the boost back phase, so not in free fall. I’m not smart enough to figure out if the gravity vector plays any significant role compared to the one from the engines in that situation :) Neither during the landing burn. There is a huge amount of deceleration which would be a vector straight through the booster? There is a slight tilt to the booster most of the way down, but I don’t know if that could make the debris settle unevenly.

In between those burns nothing can settle as you say. If Zac was referring to that phase than that was indeed an oversight.

I am not in a position to judge if this merger will be good for the industry, but this round of layoffs says nothing about that either.

On an individual level it is terrible for the people involved. But on the business level this is a perfectly normal and healthy thing to do and says absolutely nothing about the state of the games industry.

Hier ben ik het deels mee eens, ik vind ook dat men naar de eigen verantwoordelijkheid moet kijken en het niet te gemakkelijk op ‘het systeem’ af moet schuiven. Niemand lost het probleem van dierenwelzijn op door geen vlees meer te eten, daar is een systeemverandering voor nodig. Maar ik vind het te gemakkelijk om het daar volledig op af te schuiven. Minder of geen vlees eten staat in direct verband met hoeveel dieren er lijden, dus er is wel degelijk ook een individuele verantwoordelijkheid. Het is alleen dat er pas echt grote stappen gemaakt kunnen worden met een grote cultuuromslag en dat is te bereiken met ingrijpen van bovenaf.

Hoewel er bij drugsgebruik ook een direct verband is met de hoeveelheid ellende die komt kijken bij de productie en smokkel ervan, zie ik wel een wezenlijk verschil. Hier komen de problemen niet voort uit een gebrek aan ingrijpen van de overheden, maar zijn ze juist het gevolg van ingrijpen door overheden. De war on drugs is desastreus, dat is al vele decennia bekend. En toch blijven overheden er keer op keer een schep bovenop doen tegen astronomische kosten in geld en mankracht, waar we veel betere dingen mee kunnen doen, en met een onnoemelijke reeks aan ellende tot gevolg. Dit terwijl het gebruik van drugs maar heel weinig problemen oplevert. Met dat gegeven heb ik meer moeite om de nadruk te leggen op de individuele verantwoordelijkheid.

Alleen de eerste is juist.

Engine design is not stabilising yet, they are still pushing performance. Raptor 3s are now rolling off the line which again have increased performance. They also target a reduction in complexity with each iteration which should in the end increase reliability. But reliability itself is a later target once the design is mostly settled.
