I’ll have a good think about it.

373·1 year agoI keep seeing these " time to move to Linux" threads. For my work I have to use super proprietary software which I know for a fact is Windows only. Not only that it’s GPU intensive CPU intensive and niche. I’m sure there’s a way to run Windows within Linux but I can only imagine the pain in trying to get proprietary shite to work.
On top of that I need specific CAD software, Photoshop and Illustrator. I don’t think any of these daily used programs support Linux.
From the outside, Linux just seems like an absolute ball ache to get working with all of the things I currently do without even thinking about it.
I’d love to do it. Not sure it’s going to work. Am I wrong?

Games@lemmy.world•Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 sucks up to 180 Mb/s of internet bandwidth while in flight — equivalent to 81GB of data per hourEnglish
7·1 year agoI watched a couple Of live streams showing a graph for bandwidth as they flew. It tended to spike to around 180 MB a second when whole new areas were loading but during flight it was much much lower at around 10 to 15 MB per second.
This post reads like a really shit brag. I’m certain your daughter would also be doing great in life if you hadn’t harmed her.
You seem proud of causing her physical pain due to her unexpected expression of big emotions. You probably did great raising her on the whole if she is doing great in life, so why you would think that hitting her is the thing you want to highlight to randoms on the internet is weird.
Kids throw tantrums. It’s hard on parents when that happens, but those of us with kids (and probably many others too) have total sympathy for the parent in that situation. Some passersby will get annoyed, sure, but they can just turn the corner and not deal with it, so they will get over it.
Getting down to your kids’ level and talking through their behaviour and feelings is hard work, but it’s better than physically hurting a defenceless child.
Next time you fuck up, perhaps you should be slapped about? Or how about if your behaviour annoys me, perhaps I should slap you. Maybe I should wait until no one else can see though, I wouldn’t want to be judged or get into trouble, just like you took her home to hit her!
Internet forums hate kids on the whole, so I don’t expect many to agree with my views. But as a parent of some great kids, none who have ever been physically hurt by their parents, I can tell you there is always an alternative to being violent with them.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Me vs my ISPEnglish
18·2 years agoThe older and shittier the ISP the more blocks of IPV4 addresses they have. They have blocks from when they were given out willy nilly.
New ISPs, the ones that compete and bring the prices down have to buy addresses and that costs money and is a cost bigger and older ISPs do not have.
This is a case for regulation - either mandating a move to V6 or mandating the release of stockpiled v4 addresses. ISPs will not do that on their own, the addresses can currently be sold for lots of money.
I use Sync and don’t pay anything. It’s brilliant and the ads are basically invisible and rare.
Literally was the best Reddit app and it is a fantastic port to Lemmy.
You can choose to pay the dev if you want to. I haven’t yet, but likely will if I spend more time here.

414·2 years agoIn this specific instance we are talking about a luxury item that absolutely nobody needs. Anyone who would be buying this would be buying it out of choice. I think this is an instance where terms conditions set by the company of such a niche product is reasonably fair.
Flip it over and apply terms and conditions like this on mainstream consumer goods then we have a bigger problem. If this works I think you may find a lot of luxury car makers initially follow suit, you can bet that companies like BMW would absolutely love to take a cut of all second-hand sales.
It’s a slippery slope.
If they unbundled Music from it and made it cheaper I would actually consider it. I don’t need the music, the family has Spotify.
As it stands it is more expensive for my family than actual streaming services.

I am unsure how much they care about views when so many have adblockers. It will be a useful metric when the huge majority can not block ads.

-
I upgraded my prusa for years to every new model released for much less than the cost of a new printer. They provided upgrade kits for sale.
-
I made my own enclosure, works great. Downloaded the parts and followed a guide. Prusa one looks nice though.
-
My PSU had some potential issues 6 years after I bought it and they still sent me a replacement free of charge.
-
The prusa slicer software has filament profiles built in that work perfectly on the printer with no testing. They are adding them constantly. There’s something nice about not having to do test etc.
