I wonder if this post has anything to do with the unmanic API outage earlier today, lol. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what I’d done wrong until I finally convinced myself there must be a cloud-side outage impacting the plugin browser. By the time I figured it out they came back online and the plugins were browsable again, but I lost hours over this stupid problem.

Today’s outage perfectly illustrated why we choose to self-host in the first place. I too would love to see a completely self-contained foss solution for this service. Some clever shell scripting is probably all you really need to perform automated ffmpeg calls, but individually containerized services are clearly what we all prefer. I do wish I had more time to code…

FYI, you can run LineageOS on your Nvidia Shield. There’s a small loss of functionality, but maybe that can be minimized if you install gapps (I didn’t, and I still have sufficient functionality to warrant the inconvenience).

Yeah, I noticed similar weirdness on iOS. I was just ignoring it cause they already made me happy by fixing an unrelated bug with the preferred default views on dofferent servers (thank you!).

I rarely if ever see ZeroTier mentioned as a solution, but it’s a self-hostable encrypted virtual mesh network (with a small free tier for corp-hosted), super secure, and really easy to setup. I use ZTnet instead of the free-tier corp-hosted controller

It would admittedly be harder in blue states, but reds are a shoe-in for these expected shenanigans. there is also mounting evidence that purple states have already been compromised, leading to bogus counts in 2024.

I’m by no means saying to throw our hands up in despair tho! Just pointing out we need to fight harder than many realize to push for actual fair elections in the future. Resistance is NOT futile!

Mainly having issues with Sequoia’s software firewall, but there are other annoyances as well. The latest iOS update all but broke my Mail app too. I’m tolerating the macOS issues for now, but about to replace my iphone with a Pixel running LineageOS. I’ve about had it with the big apple lately.

Not your point, but I actually do recommend torrenting linux ISOs… often much faster than direct downloads from the devs’ websites. ;-)

Maybe see if ‘rclone mount’ solves the problem for ya. Rclone can often be a super handy swiss army knife for stuff like this.

I used to make clocks with the platters and give them to friends and family. Michael’s used to sell inexpensive clock mechanisms that looked really cool against the platter background. I haven’t seen them lately, but I’m sure someone sells them online.

Just the Invidious instance I found on the official list a long time ago. I like them because they’re relatively local, super reliable, and unlike a lot of other instances they actually have the download feature enabled. But yeah, their domain name is a bit awkward, lol.

Check out the Chocolatey package manager for Windows. It makes updates for all our common packages available through git/yum/brew easily installed/updated on Windows. PowerShell will never be anywhere near as nice as sitting at a proper linux terminal, but Chocolatey makes the Windows experience slightly more bearable when you need to use it.

That said, there are a number of folks rightfully concerned about the sheer mass of information Cliudflare has access to through their Content Delivery Network (their primary service). This raises potential privacy concerns, especially for self-hosters, who tend to prefer not to rely too heavily on any one large company. However, you don’t actually have to use their CDN service to make use of their minimally-priced Registrar functionality, and personally I really appreciate the services they offer. Their free tier is really impressive, and incredibly useful.

I can’t speak to the paid ProtonVPN service, but their free tier doesn’t allow torrenting. They’ll disconnect you with a slap on the wrist error about it.
