  • I’ve really not enjoyed the last Astérix, having grown up with the Goscinny ones. To be honest, I haven’t read this one, but I’m planning to. Not expecting much to be honest, but thanks for the review nonetheless !

Goscinny of course had master class puns, and I mean in french it’s just perfection. But maybe it’s further than that. He had great timing and tempo in storytelling, that the newer albums clearly have lost. They try nowadays to take the spirit of making jokes using modern situations, which can work but this mostly falls flat imo. It’s like writing satire and being witty isn’t as easy as it sounds !

  • Oh yes personal story time! When I went to study to university more than 10 yrs ago, I lived for 1 year in a family and they had this painting on a mug. I drank from that mug every morning for a year.

Missed the mug after that, but went to Amsterdam shortly after! Went to the van Gogh museum, saw the painting as it naturally became one of my favorites from Mr one ear and found the mug. Of course I bought it!

Right next to it is the wheatfield with crows wheatfield with crows. I find it very complementary to the thundercloud one. Previous experts thought the crows foreshadowed van Gogh’s impending death but recent analysis of his writings have shown that in this case the flight of birds symbolise movement and flux more than stillness and death. I went back to the museum this year and they had the mug of that one! Of course I bought it. I’m a happy person with my van Gogh mugs.

If you read this, I can recommend these mugs.

  • Classic whataboutism. We’re not talking about the former colonies here nor asylum seekers. And you are completely out of it. You’re not seeing that colonialism and asylum seekers aren’t the point as they’re persecuted outside their country for the latter or being persecuted by an outside force for the former. In the authoritarian BRICS regimes it’s internal persecution towards their own people. It’s not about skin color.

Also yes Brazil and SA are muchhhhh worse than Canada. Have you been? Clearly not. Cause going in a supermarket in Rio with heavily armed guards on alert cause you’re white which means a robbery could take place any moment targeting you or in SA having to take an uber down the street to not get assaulted and robbed? Yeah.

  • Mango you got to get your head outta your ass. If you think that tariffs will make jobs come back to America and even more so because you’re doing good, oh brother.

Example: I buy a t-shirt 15 dollars in China. You’re saying that now we can buy the shirt in the US. For 49 dollars? The money goes back to us? First of all no it doesn’t it still goes to the big leagues in the t-shirt company while minimum wage is 7.25 dollars.

Secondly: if you can buy the t-shirt with tariffs 25 dollars instead from China, you still do. Why the fuck would you buy it for 49 in the US? Cause it’s American? You know people got bills to pay and health problems right? There’s a reality we live in
