Fire is essentially a name for a chemical reaction. So it’s probably more accurate to say “thing is undergoing fire”

Programming@programming.dev•Do you guys use AI when programming? If so, how?
1·12 days agoOf course, but this assumes I know roughly what the text will look like that I’m searching for. If I already know what it will look like, I’ll use global search of course, but if all I know is that “at some point this element is put into the document” then I have no idea how that might actually happen. AI is just pretty good (ie succeeds sometimes) at generalising my words into a rough idea and searching for that.

Programming@programming.dev•Do you guys use AI when programming? If so, how?
4·13 days agoI mostly use it as a code search tool, when dealing with large projects that I’m not very familiar with. Like I can ask “where is this component actually inserted into the web page” and it can sometimes point to a file and function. It doesn’t always work of course, but when it does it can save a lot of time.
I don’t ever let AI write code for me though
A common quick meal in my house is pasta pesto (with a can of kidney beans mixed in because beans are delicious).

Trans Memes@lemmy.blahaj.zone•all gender affirming care should be free!!! 😤
2·16 days agoIs it already a thing for trans men to “donate” their boobs to trans women? Maybe that should be a thing. (Apologies in advance if this idea is very ignorant in some way)

News@lemmy.world•Advice to feed babies peanuts early and often helped thousands of kids avoid allergies
14·17 days agoThis has given me an idea. I will avoid giving my children any crystal meth, in the hopes they will become allergic to it.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The C programming language is like debating a philosopher and Python is like debating someone who ate an edible
26·17 days agoI genuinely do not understand the problem with white spaces that people seem to have. Literally any well formatted code will use whitespace for indentation.
I imagine that if python syntax was the norm and then a C-style syntax language appeared, the same group of people would be complaining “curly brackets? Who thought that was a good idea?”

Programming@programming.dev•I am sorry, but everyone is getting syntax highlighting wrong
3·17 days agoExactly!! Having each different part be different colours essentially breaks the code into larger “tokens” which is much easier to read than letting your eyes get lost in a sea of uniformity.
It’s not about knowing which colour is variables and which colour is functions. It’s about there being some contrast between them.

4·26 days agoI genuinely don’t care about the decision, what I’m mad about is that there was literally any time spent on this topic, instead of the multitude of real problems we have

10·1 month agoIn order to avoid said recourse, the company will usually offer a severance package. For example a company I used to work for did a big restructure and the laid off employees got a half months salary for every year they’d been at the company + 2 months paid leave

Many other dev teams would have probably taken their payday and disappeared into the wind after that launch.

Ye Power Trippin' Bastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Intermittent enforcement is a no-no, but petty enforcement is apparently a-ok
35·2 months agoNo, it isn’t. Exactly this mindset is why we call it “power-tripping” because you think the powers given to you to enforce rules are “fair fucking game” to use as a tool to inflict negativity.
Respond with negativity if you wish, but leave your mod powers out of it. Invoking mod powers to punish someone who hasn’t broken the rules is definitionally abuse of power.

Ye Power Trippin' Bastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Intermittent enforcement is a no-no, but petty enforcement is apparently a-ok
35·2 months agoWhat you don’t seem to understand is that responding to negativity with negativity is not what makes this PTB. That’s a fairly normal response. What makes this PTB is deciding to use your mod powers as a means to inflict negativity on people, inflicting punishment on people not because of the rules, but because you feel like it. You explicitly admitted to doing this: “Now I’m removing it just to spite you”.
Nah, curl your tongue into a tube and stick it in the drink to use as a straw
I’ve heard you aren’t actually supposed to, that it can be bad for your ears
