Second this. In the spirit of a 3-2-1 backup scenario, I also like to keep a copy on SpiderOak or Proton Drive and that works well for me. Encrypted cloud storage is my recommendation. And store your key file someplace apart from the database.

The irony of him wearing a Pink Floyd shirt is totally lost on him. Reminds me of Paul Ryan using RATM during his campaign.

For real. Last year we finally got some competition against Spectrum and their customer service is actually worse than Spectrum. I didn’t imagine that was possible

Agreed. Tried NextDoor years ago and found it was primarily a venue for busybodies, nosy neighbors and HOAs to complain and nag people about nonsense. I love the idea of an app like this, but hate the people who use it the most.

This. And after having managed some of these prefabricated housing projects, I found the big problem is in the details. The designers do not have the necessary experience to accurately make panels that fit together correctly. So you sink a ton of time in preconstruction, then fabrication also introduces errors in the final product and then the field teams spend even more time fixing it. Prefab is a great idea that is facing a steep learning curve.
A lot of us noobs haven’t learned how to do this yet. It is unfortunately, not part of most distros Intro guide
Anyone got the archive.org link?

I’ve been on the hunt for an ELI5 guide to make this happen
To expand on this, I have witnessed small, indie channels have their content copied, processed through AI so it is stripped of audio, watermarks and re-edited. Then it is posted as a new video. When it is reported as a fake, or pirated copy, or not original content, Google then puts the burden of proof on the small indie channel that originally created the content, often requiring them to lawyer up and file a legal complaint, before they will take any action to remove the AI slop. It is fucking absurd. It would only take a real person about 60 seconds to compare the content and dates to determine who is the theif.

This could have been a really interesting article. Like, what was the property ownership structure while the monks were there? Were there efforts to conserve the property or make it public lands? If so, what happened? How did it come to pass that this evil rich prick now owns it?
But no, none of that is addressed. Assuming the author is a real person, they did a terrible job. But after reading this trash, you could easily convince me it is AI slop.
I’m eagerly awaiting an update to Eternity. It was the best! For now I’m using Connect

Happens all the time in construction. Especially bank financed builds or anytime an investment bank is involved in any way. It is in their interest to delay payment as long as possible because the longer that money is in the investment, the more interest they make. Yes it is that greedy and petty.

They do have decent buyer protection. Beware of any seller who tries to communicate with you outside of eBay messages. That’s the only issue I’ve ever had.

I use evilbay for this purpose and I’ve had good luck. I only buy from sellers with lots of good feedback and have had an account for at least 5 years. And I only buy devices that come with at least 3 year warranty. I’ve been doing that for about 15 years. Laptops, desktops, phones, etc

Amen. Glad to hear I’m not the only one baffled that Spotify’s app development is total garbage. It is one app that doesn’t get updated ever - once I have a working version. If it were up to me, I’d happily never use it again

Blorp runs just fine when installed via Obtainium

I feel that. Windows gives me the creeps since 8.1. Recently I setup a new Win11 machine and it took all day to get everything configured including figuring out how to turn off all the telemetry and spyware. I’ll use it for work but I don’t even like it on my network.
Arch from scratch sounds like an adventure. But there are many good arch spins like Garuda that make it easy, no drama.

Well when I was testing out distros last year, I wanted updated KDE, Wayland, BTRFS, Snapper, full LUKS (including the boot partition) and I wanted it all somewhat complete and configured with a GUI installer. I had spent way too much time mucking around in the CLI with Fedora trying to get all of that and I was over it. Garuda just delivered. I didn’t know much about Arch at that time but man, it just works so well. All the issues I had with Debian and Mint and Ubuntu and Fedora, they just aren’t a problem with Arch. And Garuda has it all configured out of the box. I’m sure there’s some bloat in it - stuff that’s included that I don’t need. But I’m just happy everything I want is in there and I don’t need to figure it out
Great read! I wonder what his perspective is now. That article was written in August 2024 and a lot has happened since then. For example, I cannot fathom the agreement to Sundar’s latest pay package. Another example of failing up the corporate ladder.
Also, it feels like competition with China was an overlooked wildcard in his argument. It would not surprise me if the bubble continues to grow just to try and beat China.
