What are you all buying there? I’m genuinely puzzled… I’m more and more convinced that the people asking for Amazon alternatives should just shop less. Often the best alternative is nothing at all. Do we really need a European Instagram or X? A European Temu? I don’t think so… just be more present in real life folks.

Duolingo will never be enough, but can be a good fun start and also a way of keeping always some contact with the language. But to really master a language you’ll need multiple tools and sources, there are no miracles… it’s all about repetition, exposure, daring to speak… and above all, use the language. If you master a language and then stop using it, it will fade away.
Yeah but… I kind of really need a god or goddess of the European Way of Life right now. Will sacrifice a pig to invoke them, hope it works 🤞
A EU sanctioned paganism with a god per NUTS I could be a solution, plus a god per portfolio of the EU commission. This should cover all our spiritual needs in a way that strengthens European integration and cooperation. Just think about it 🧘🏻🙇🏻🇪🇺
Time to revive paganism, these middle eastern monotheism has nothing to do with us. Europe has always been politheist till those invaders came.

8·20 hours agoTrump can break anything, that’s for sure. A natural born breaker.
Exactly. There are literally thousands of alternatives to Amazon, including physical shops by the way. This is not rocket science, do some research (Ecosia is your friend) and you’ll see you can always find better prices elsewhere also… And sometimes paying a bit more is worth it, for example for the convenience of having living commerce in your street with immediate delivery directly to your hands over the counter.

Europe@feddit.org•Look to Italy to see how the dangerous idea of ‘remigration’ is taking root in EuropeEnglish
5·1 day agoI just gave you the example of house prices in Lisbon, and those are not being pulled up by cheap labour, but uncontrolled migration also means cheap labor.
And no, a EU citizen in another EU country is not an immigrant. But an American digital nomad in Lisbon yes, is indeed an immigrant.
Also, advocating for limits and policies that regulate migration doesn’t mean being against it all together. It’s not a yes or no question, precisely what I’ve been trying to say since the first comment.

38·1 day agoYou say something less negative about Israel and get immediately banned from several popular communities. It is a problem, there’s less hate speech than on Reddit for sure, but the hate speech that you see is perfectly tolerated and standard, like hating Israel.

4·2 days agoYou’re the one advocating for cheap labour without restrictions, how am I the one carrying the flame for the rich? The rich love cheap labour! But yeah, with that dominant ideology among left parties, no wonder the popular classes vote far-right…

916·2 days agoThis is not particularly fascist, as this is renouncing the importance of blood to keep the nationality. In fact Italy had probably the most easy going nationality law in Europe when it comes to give it to descendants. One Italian grandparent and boom, here is your passport even if you don’t speak a word of Italian or never been to Italy.

6·2 days agoNo region of the world can receive millions of people without disruptions. Some thousands and you have a housing crisis already, shitty apartments in Lisbon are more expensive than good ones in Brussels. And the total of the population barely changed…
Also, migration without controls is a neoliberal agenda, not a left one. Controlled economy doesn’t work with uncontrolled migration. It’s weird to me that it’s always the left carrying the defense of migration when it’s something of a free market ideology. Socialist countries are always extremely controlling of their borders.

81·2 days agoThe problem of the debate on migration is that it’s always black and white, it’s difficult to have nuance, and this is a complex topic where nuance is essential to achieve a reasonable policy, one that allows needed workers from outside Europe to work in Europe, but one that also addresses the safety and demographic concerns of Europeans. The debate is clearly being won by the far-right, although they easily reverse their own policies when they see a negative impact on their businesses.
But the left won’t win this if their position is always and only of defense of current policies against far-right attacks. Europe needs migration, but Europeans also need assurances that that migration doesn’t put in question their social contract and their way of life. And these are indeed being put to test in several places around Europe. Easy cheap labour makes everyone’s jobs more precarious, especially among the less qualified ones. Muslim migration is indeed changing the way of life in many neighborhoods and cities around Europe, in a way that doesn’t please the locals. There are real issues with real consequences in the real world, lefty university professors praising diversity while living in gentrified areas and having the most secure jobs in the country won’t be the ones winning the debate.
