I somehow feel things have changed. Maybe it’s the internet, lack of education, consumerism, whatever. I hate to say this, bit I feel like a lot of people, when they get hungry, would steal from their neighbours. Far too many folk don’t understand that the wealthy are the author of their suffering and won’t know where to target their anger. Not to mention that oligarchs are hard to catch, whereas your neighbour with a slightly newer car is right there, and may be of a different race. People don’t understand who they should be angry with.

You’re in for a treat, I wish I could read them for the first time again! The first book Gardens of the moon can be a bit disjointed, but stick with it, the series is great after that and just keeps getting better.

Yeah, they have essential skills and experience and are almost impossible to replace, especially at short notice. We don’t tend to think of them when we fly, but they’re a reason we survive the experience. And given the stress of their jobs, IMO whatever they’re getting paid isn’t enough. And now they’re not getting paid at all.

Yeah, I loved this series. If someone could translate the slightly sardonic tone into a videogame that would be great. Currently reading Steven Erikson’s Malazan series, which is absolutely amazing. If you liked Black Company, you might like this too. Different tone, but both basically follow soldiers dealing with fucked up stuff.

Hurrah! I don’t download much - I don’t have a lot of screen time and I tend to play games slowly - but I also have slow internet, this is great for me. Don’t know why steam deck didn’t do this before but I’m glad it will now.

Cyberpunk. I started it a few months ago, got bored about ten hours in and put it down, played Prey (which was fuckin great!) then I went back to cyberpunk and got the taste. I’m almost 200 hrs in at the mo and loving it. Got a couple more jobs to do then I’m starting the Dogtown stuff. Impressive how well it plays on steam deck.

That looks pretty versatile. I guess people are still wary of unity after they shit the bed a couple of years back? This seems like a plausible alternative.

I’ve had several times a cat has run out in the road in front of my car, and would have gone under if I hadn’t stopped quickly. Happily I’ve not hit one, few close calls though.
