They shouldn’t have made a personal attack like that, but they’re not wrong. Herd immunity is needed. Individual vaccination, while helpful, isn’t fool proof. Especially for highly infectious diseases like measles.

I try to even clip mine into a bit of a V (but very subtle; ~10°). Had a friend teach me that in college. It feels weird for a day or two but I haven’t had ingrown nails since.
As someone who built up a business working 80+ hrs; fuck that guy. 5 years ago I was paying part timers$26/hr and my only full time (salary) - told him 30 hrs/week max. It was my risk/investment, not theirs. I didn’t want them to get burned out. Happier employees perform better.
Almost the exact same situation here. I tested it on myself and it’s like a TENS unit. It’s been a few years and now we really only use the tone button. It was a lifesaver for training though.
64/78 year round. Occasionally knock it down to 74 in the summer when it’s going to be really hot and the AC unit may not keep up.The house retains heat too well and bakes in the evening sun.

72·10 months agoWhile I think Linus can be way too whiny at times. I think he handled the situation well if everything stated is true. He made it clear on his forum that they terminated the partnership/sponsorship. He could have made a ‘more public statement (e.g., a video on ltt)’ but as he stated, viewers probably would have raked him over the coals for doing so. It likely would have been perceived as ‘oh no! Honey stole money from me but gave you a discount. Woe is me.’
He still is too whiny as of the last few years but as a small business (very small; ~20 employees) owner myself, I kind of get it. I go out of my way to try to give my employees the best possible experience but sometimes people think I’m just taking advantage of them (despite me paying my full-time employees 1.5x my pre-tax take home rate). So I kind of get why he acts that way at times. Now, I don’t condone it, but I understand.
Edit I love what Steve from GN is doing. I reported the honey extension when this news initially came out. I have supported all his pro consumer reports/actions.

Same. I came on with the original Google play music. I can’t believe that was nearly 13 years ago… Oh how I miss Google play music.

61·2 years agoAs a former 3rd party voter; it’s a wasted vote. I don’t like either parties but voting 3rd party favors the GOP in US elections. Now that the GOP is full steam ahead on facism, voting 3rd party is dangerous. Hopefully more municipalities, states, and national elections will migrate to ranked choice voting to make voting for other parties a viable option. Until then, I’d rather not vote for the party that wants a dictatorship.
Fully agree. My employees have unlimited sicks days. If they’re not feeling well, I’d rather they stay home and rest up. We work with schools so spread happens so quick and easily.
If you stay away from people when you’re sick that definitely helps. The only drawback that is you may be contagious before showing symptoms.
Getting boosters help reduce spread and reduce risks of complications from viruses (like getting an annual flu shot or Tdap boosters). Not everyone can get the vaccine (i.e. they’re allergic) or individuals may have weakened immune systems and their body can’t produce enough antibodies. If the community continues to test and get boosters, it helps everyone stay healthier and potentially save lives.
Just because it’s endemic doesn’t mean there’s no more action needed. Hospitals may not be packed like they were (although they still get busy with COVID during peaks stressing the system), it doesn’t mean that you can’t help protect others.
One of the positive things that came from this pandemic is at home tests (not just for COVID). By testing when sick (whether it’s the flu, COVID, rsv, etc… I’ve had COVID where I really thought it was allergies. Was about to go out to meet with friends and figured I’d test just in case. Sure enough I was positive with what felt like mild hay fever (it was summer time). I’m just glad I tested and didn’t get anyone else sick.
I agree. I feel like many people aren’t testing. I had it very mild in June of 2023. I thought it was allergies but tested and sure enough; positive. My fiance thought she had a cold in November of 2023 but decided to test and it was positive. Meanwhile all these people around us have “colds” but aren’t actually testing. I somehow escaped it when my fiance had it so I got a booster last month hoping I can escape this wave and help cut the spread.

World News@lemmy.world•Hong Kong is building public housing on a golf course in a snub to the old eliteEnglish
21·2 years agoMay I ask why? My old town had about a dozen golf courses when I was growing up. Now when I drive by it’s all housing developments other than the few that remain. It used to be a more rural area.
I’d much rather see green space and golf courses than housing developments. While I completely agree that there is a housing shortage, it appears that root issue isn’t solved by more housing developments on golf courses. Instead, why not convert existing buildings (such as unused office spaces) into public housing. Or, prevent corporations or investment firms from buying up real estate/housing to turnaround and jack up costs.
I may be biased but I’ve had these views before picking up golf. I mainly use golf as a way to stay active as I’m getting older and get outside in the fresh air.

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘personal agenda.’ I’m legitimately trying to have a productive conversation so please don’t take anything said as a personal affront. We’re just trying to express the importance of herd immunity as it stands from expert consensus on the subject.
If you have any studies on herd immunity not being as important, I would love to read through them.
I understand why you trust your advisor. I’m lucky enough to be friends with someone who was a professor of infectious disease, has a PhD in virology and created a vaccine. They are my go to for anything on the subject matter. Again, anything you can share on the topic is greatly appreciated.
