THE POLICE PROBLEM@lemmy.world•Fascist paramilitary invaders start unconstitutionally raiding houses door-to-door in the USA. We no longer have rights in America. Welcome to the home of the oppressed. (Minneapolis, MN - 1/11/26)English
1·3 months agoI would not to surprised to see in the not too distant future, small clusters of residents forming compounds in an effort to protect themselves. The compounds will only grow larger the more the people feel threatened. It’s gonna get really fucking weird, and extremely fucking violent.

World News@lemmy.world•Elon Musk becomes world's first half-trillionaireEnglish
54·6 months agoHalf a trillion in equity is so unfathomable in my reality.
$500,000,000,000
Let’s say I ask him for 0.001% of his wealth… I would get $5,000,000.
Now let’s put this into perspective of my reality. If I had $1000 and someone asked me for the same 0.001% of my wealth, I would be handing over $0.01.
One cent.
I understand that this wouldn’t be sustainable if I give everyone one cent from my pot of a thousand… but still. Have a trillion dollars makes me sick.
“That no talent, ass clown”

Go fuck yourself you fucking toad.

2·1 year agoIs there a reason why the two USBC I/O ports on the front aren’t ThunderBolt capable?
Having a couple of I/O ports nice and accessible at the front is awesome, but why limit them to 10gb/s when TB3 will do 20Gbps, TB4 will do 40Gbps and TB5 will do 80Gbps. I imagine there will be many people out there that will inadvertently use the front ports thinking they’re the same speed

I love “the wire” scene on picking a power tool.
“Yeah. Cordless’ll do that. You might want to consider the powder-actuated tool. The Hilti DX460MX or the Simpson PTP. These two are my Cadillacs. Everything else on this board is second best, sorry to say. Are you contracting or just doing some work around the house?”

World News@lemmy.world•Brexit has completely failed for UK, say clear majority of Britons – pollEnglish
6·2 years agoThank you for the article. The more I learn about it, the more fucked up it truly is. I had a basic understanding of bad it was from a simple perspective, but the more you learn, the more messed up it becomes. I really hope there is something good to come from how monumentally messed up the situation is.
I’m getting used to GDPR regulations in my line of work I haven’t had to deal with… primarily with how my industry uses AI transcription for media. We have to be very careful with which transcription services that reside outside of the UK are used. so if for example, we use an S3 based transcription service in the cloud that is based in France, we might come into issues, even though they might be GDPR compliant. It’s all a bit of a mess, but once you know what to do it is okay, but to cut through the red tape to get an answer can be laborious because so many people need to agree to the request
That’s just one little thing, out of hundreds of impactful changes because of Brexit. It really was a ballsup

World News@lemmy.world•Brexit has completely failed for UK, say clear majority of Britons – pollEnglish
10·2 years agoThank you for comment. These points you mention really illustrate the absolute clusterfuck it has become.
Annoyingly, I believe in democracy and can’t get angry that it happened. It went to the people. The people voted. But damn it was a joke from the beginning, full of lies and deception. Sadly the UK citizens are suffering from this, but hopefully things get better sooner. I’ll always be the eternal optimist.

World News@lemmy.world•Brexit has completely failed for UK, say clear majority of Britons – pollEnglish
27·2 years agoI genuinely asking for some education on Brexit, because I personally thought, and still think it was a terrible decision for the nation, but I am hoping to get a better understanding from real people and not just read articles. I know I can research it, but would like to hear personal opinions/thoughts/etc….
I am a UK citizen, but I was living my teen and mid adult life in Australia. I didn’t get to vote on Brexit as I was not residing on the country at the time, and never thought I would return. Circumstances have changed, and I have now moved back to the UK at the beginning of the year, so I’m in the thick of the Brexit mess now. I can’t comment on what life was like before Brexit, but I am now a citizen of its consequences.
From my limited understanding, and what I really need clarification and advice on is;
Brexit was a campaign point that David Cameron ran on for election. When he won, he called the referendum, but he was opposed to it. Meanwhile, the Brexit campaign was in full swing with lots of misinformation, but Cameron only decided to rally hard in the leading three months up to the vote, failing to properly educate and explain the deal to the public.
The vote was close. Somewhere in the 52%/48%
Cameron stood down
Brexit happened, finalising at the end of 2020
I know there’s a lot of nuance, and I know I’m missing a lot of major information, but is my understanding the very basic gist of what happened?
Thanks for any response

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•It's almost impossible to deny being an alcoholic without sounding like an alcoholic
132·2 years agoI believe you when you say you’re not anorexic, or ever had anorexia, but as a 43 year old man, who is 185cm tall, my healthy range is 63-86 kilos.
I am 82 kilos give or take a meal, and if I lost 15 kilos I would be very, very slender, and that would still keep me well in the “healthy” range.
What I’m saying is the healthy range, to me at least, should be taken with a pinch of salt, and it’s shithouse that your diagnosis has vexed you for over ten years.

I don’t have any skin in this fight, and the dude is totally right…. But I’d bet a few bucks that the reporter was moving on from the voxpop because the two of them would have probably had a quick chat before the live cross to gauge his ability to be succinct and hold an opinion, and it could have started to go in a direction that may have thrown her. I would also take a guess that she probably felt that he was going to go waaaay of script and say something that could put the network in hot water. Fuck her in the pussy, Trump is a pedo. I like turtles…. There’s a bit of risk management for a live cross that she would have been mindful of.
But then again… who knows?
