PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Discord is about to require age verification for everyoneEnglish
19·17 hours agoAlso cancelled mine. I don’t suspect this change will actually directly affect me personally, but it’s the final straw on a big pile of straw. I know plenty of people here will admonish those of us that were paying for it in the first place, but better late than never I say.
Not entirely sure what I’m going to transition my group to. It’s quite likely we won’t actually have one replacement, but many. We used text, voice, video, and screensharing on Discord (plus many other, though less important features). I don’t know of an alternative that does all of it.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canadian Tire ordered to pay nearly $1.3 million for false advertising | Globalnews.caEnglish
1·22 hours agoWhy should I care that a business which was breaking the law gets fined into nonexistence? Like, of course I feel for the workers, it’s not most of their faults, but if we believe in the free market then another will fill that gap.

1·24 hours agoMy point was, why does that matter? They profited from false advertising; fine their total profits.

2·1 day agoBut you can’t quantify how much that trick earned them. How many customers went to Canadian Tire to buy that item, and then also bought others things while they were there? Would those customers have gone to Canadian Tire otherwise without that “sale”? Were they incentivized to spend even more because they thought they were saving money with that “sale”?

4·1 day agoNo it’s not.
Ah that’s hidden in a menu on piefed and doesn’t seem visible at all on Boost. Thanks!

2·2 days agoInteresting to see this when I just posted about Memory Express doing the same thing last week. I don’t think MemEx does business in QC but could be wrong about that. Would love for this shit to be investigated and punished across all areas of the market.

41·2 days agothey can’t easily determine how much that specific trick influenced their profits
Why should the fine be based on that?
Oh, I don’t see anything but text in Fizz’ post and don’t know what source view means.
The hate she gets is wild. I don’t always find her comics funny, but the absolute vitriol she gets is wild over on Reddit.

1·3 days agoI don’t really read physical books; I only do audiobooks. But I like to have the physical versions of the books I really, really enjoyed. And if they are just for display effectively, I’d rather have the hard back.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•PlayStation Publishing reveal Horizon Hunters Gathering, Guerrilla's new co-op action gameEnglish
3·4 days agoThe clothes are quite accurate to what kinds of things they were wearing even in the first game so I’m not sure what you remember them wearing.
As for the style, I’m not a fan either but I’m guessing this style is easier to run on lower spec PCs which is important for a multiplayer title.

6·4 days agoWow I hate that art style. Maybe it’ll grow on me but first impression was not good. Horizon Monster Hunter sounds dope on paper though.

Games@lemmy.world•The developers of PEAK, explaining how they decided on pricing for their game. English
17·4 days agoNah it’s still ten, especially if you grew up in a place that doesn’t include tax in the price. That’s easily getting to mid 8 after tax, and that might as well be ten.

1·4 days agoI mean this came up when I posted the story myself, and I immediately tried to launch the game to test it and it worked fine. Another user reported it was fine too.
To be clear, I’m not defending them using their own account service for the cloud saves either, because it is dumb to do so when Steam offers that functionality.

44·4 days agoWhy do you say that? I thought that it was an interesting story. Miyazaki’s comments have cultural significance imho.

1·4 days agoGot a solid chuckle out of me with that one.

I mean, I share the complaint of Discord having tons of unindexable knowledge locked away in it, but forums are not good replacement for my friend group. So yeah we kinda want a Discord alternative specifically.
