I run EndeavourOS on a Lenovo Yoga and it works great for the most part. Only thing really missing for me is programming thr buttons on the stylus, but it’s too minor of an inconvenience to deal with IMO. Keyboard, track pad, and touch screen all work as intended.

5·2 years agoI know you probably mean one of those serving-sized cereal boxes, but the mental image of you pulling out a family-sized box of cereal from some portal-to-Narnia pocket in your pants is fucking hilarious to me.

What is this thing?@lemmy.world•Found this when we were cleaning out a family member's basement. I don't know anything about who owned it other than that it was a family member from a few generations back.English
2·2 years agoThanks so much for taking the time to write this out! I’ll see about getting some gun oil and a small enough sharpener (the only one I own apparently doesn’t accommodate tiny pocket knives), and I may post an update on how it looks. I’m glad to see this little guy can be restored to working condition since a handy knife like this deserves a purpose, but I am a little sad that the scales might not have much longer (relatively speaking).

2·2 years agoYou’re not the only one that thought that. I really need to clarify that I know it’s a pocket knife in the title so I don’t keep freaking people out as they’re casually scrolling.

3·2 years agoI got some more pictures so hopefully this lighting works a little better. Washed in soapy water as requested and dried. I’m quite sure I’ve already messed some things up on it unfortunately but hopefully I can save it just a bit for at least usability. The handle material was already flaking when we found it and the inside is definitely pretty dirty/rusty still.
P.S. thanks for your help on this. Your response is really detailed and helpful.

3·2 years agoWow, that’s a lot! Thanks so much for the path through the jungle of old pocket knives! I’m gonna take a look at some of these points and see what else I can find.

10·2 years agoHm interesting. Looking up “1940s solingen pocket knife” gives me some results with either similar profiles or similar grips to the one I have. Nothing identical but it’s a good start. Thank you!

6·2 years agoThankfully I’m a bit more aware of things than that. I have multiple pocket knives already but they’re all modern while this is distinctly not. I perhaps could have been more descriptive haha

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•People who dont particularly care for or celebrate Christmas, Whats your favorite Christmas song?English
9·2 years agoI celebrate Christmas (not as festive as some people but still) but I generally am apathetic to Christmas music at best. That being said, Carol of the Bells by Transiberian Orchestra still kicks ass and I would say it is the one Christmas song that I would actively and willingly listen to.
I was just reading about these yesterday. They basically bypass your eardrum so they’re really good for people with hearing loss who still want to use headphones. Definitely check them out if you think they’ll work for you.
Ambivert maybe?
It makes a copy of your entire system automatically (and your home folder if you want it to) so, in the event that you break something and can’t/don’t want to fix it, you can go back to your most recent back-up from before you messed your system up. I’ve had to use it a few times because I installed some drivers for my drawing tablet that broke more than they fixed and I didn’t want to deal with the pain in the ass of removing them and all of the dependencies they installed.

Technology@lemmy.world•Windows 12 May Require a SubscriptionEnglish
44·3 years agoAs someone who switched to Linux primarily because of Windows 11’s never ending BS (bugs, resource mismanagement, etc) and the inevitably end of Windows 10, I can confirm that Windows 10 will be my last.

politics @lemmy.world•Plant Milk Is Better For Us and the Climate. So Why Do We Subsidize Dairy?
72·3 years agoRight there with you. I’ve been living the plant milk life for years at this point and cow milk just tastes so… water-y for lack of a better explanation.
I initially switched because I heard about Windows planning to drop support for Windows 10 and I knew that Windows 11 was slow as hell so I jumped ship. I stayed because I really like the customizability and all the options Linux affords me as well as being able to just… switch distros if one company does something I don’t like. Being able to update when I want to is also amazing.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Steam won't run The Sims 4 [Linux Mint]English
2·3 years agoThanks for the really detailed explanation! This is a really nice overview for me.
I’ll try again to run the game on Steam on a few versions of Proton. If that doesn’t work, I might try relinking my accounts as another commenter suggested.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Steam won't run The Sims 4 [Linux Mint]English
2·3 years agoI’ve been trying to stick with Steam because Steam has been such a pleasant experience for me (besides some issues with NVIDIA but that’s not Steam’s fault) but I might have to take a look at Lutris if none of the other fixes work. Thanks for the recommendation, though!

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Steam won't run The Sims 4 [Linux Mint]English
11·3 years agoI looked through these yesterday and I’ve tried several of these fixes with no luck. Is WINE a prerequisite to running The Sims 4 off of Steam (given that I’m using Proton for all Steam games)?

Yeah, I can confirm this. I’ve been using Linux for around two years at this point and having a Linux-using friend made the transition at the start way easier. Now I’m the Linux-using friend for all of my Linux-curious friends and it’s great.
