i took a motorcycle class where they also taught us that second one too: focus on where you want to go, not on what you want to avoid.
i hadn’t considered it in a broader context until your post, but you’re right it works

I was wondering what Vin Diesel and Billy Strings real names were. Mark Sinclair & William Apostol. Then i read about stage names

both are exaggerations to make it sound more impressive than it really was. but “literally” is for the people who aren’t happy with the normal exaggeration so they’re doubling down.

i had a 6 month sabbatical a couple years ago and decided to try some solo international travel. i had never traveled solo before and worried it would be lonely. but it was solo or nothing, so i went. no regrets.
in the evenings id spend time writing in a journal about that day. I’m not really a journal guy but it was a good fit for solo travel. something to do when everything was closed and i felt like it helped me get more out of the trips.
mine were on my laptop. later when i got home i moved them online and spent some time editing them and adding lots of photos from my trips and links to my videos. so they morphed into whatever you would call that.
i also have a terrible memory. if you get a chance to go somewhere cool, id highly recommend journaling as part of your trip!

how dare you question my benevolence. to the pits with you.
don’t fight against gravity by trying to fly directly towards the universe. Instead, fly parallel to the universe until you are out of the black hole’s pull, then angle back towards the universe.

A friend of mine really despises Progressive’s “Flo” and that Geico Gekko. I’m no fan myself, but he REALLY hates them and says he’ll never give those companies any business because of those characters.
i had a manual mustang cobra a long time ago and dealing with the clutch in stop and go traffic could get exhausting. my leg would actually start getting tired after a while.

An Indian friend once explained to me about cricket that, if you follow the game, a few minutes of a batter NOT swinging at a pitch can be masterful play. The batter didn’t do anything and apparently if you’re into the game you’re thinking “oh that’s great stuff, really amazing strategy right there!”
I still don’t watch cricket, or any sports really. But I thought that was interesting.

This fish was hand carved out of a moose antler. I saw it in a store in Anchorage when I was there for a friend’s wedding. It was the first original art I ever bought and was pretty expensive at the time.
100%. Also cleaning the kitchen. Always cleaning the kitchen.

i stumbled across magic city hippies two years ago and still have like 10 of their songs on heavy rotation. i love their easy poolside vibe. really smooth. feels like a summer party.
corazon < seemed ridiculous at first, but really grew on me. happy energy.

i once criticized Salvador Dali’s artwork. turns out people really love that guy and i’m a moron
there was an old ad with a kid sitting on a dock fishing, eating a bologna sandwich and singing “my bologna has a first name, its o-s-c-a-r. my bologna has a second name its m-a-y-e-r”…
nothing wrong with the commercial except it turned out to be an ear worm that would live in my head FOREVER. my brain trots it out at least once a month for no good reason. usually more.
ive never bought bologna and i’m low key mad at Oscar Mayer so maybe this counts?

i had one of those apple corer things you press down to cut an apple into slices and leave behind the core in a cylinder.
used it one day at work and started feeling more and more nauseated and dizzy right after eating the apple slices to the point i had to leave work and go home.
i googled it later and discovered apple seeds contain a small amount of cyanide. i guess normally if you don’t chew them they pass through just fine no problem. but that apple corer thing had sliced through several seeds.
i’ve chewed a seed or two before without issues so maybe i got some mutant apple or something but fyi about the cyanide thing!
