United Kingdom@feddit.uk•UK retailer GAME to cease video game trade-ins, staff sayEnglish
1·2 years agoFair point, I suppose the fact that I need a decent desktop PC for other things too means that it makes sense to spend a little more to get one that is also decent for gaming.

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•UK retailer GAME to cease video game trade-ins, staff sayEnglish
21·2 years agoAs a PC gamer who tends to buy most of their games in Steam sales, I assure you that gaming on the cheap in a digital world is most assuredly possible.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Any recommendations for time loop games?
9·2 years agoThe Mooncrash DLC for Prey (2017) isn’t strictly a time loop game but it might have a lot of the elements that you find interesting.

4·2 years agoNando’s was amazing when I first went, twenty years ago. Huge portions, great value, really quick. It’s been going downhill ever since. I’m surprised anyone still goes.
I had one of those a few years back. On one day, the thing I was looking for was on the exact same door.
His interview certainly lent some additional weight to the theories that he’s been trying to run the company into the ground the whole time.
Our personal workloads reduced because the industrialisation of agriculture meant we didn’t have to grow our own food any more.
Not trying to defend capitalism, but it’s disingenuous of you to imply that you don’t get anything in return for working.
This is the song that sparked my love for “songs with holes in them”. Love that big bar of silence.

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Teach primary pupils real-world maths - LabourEnglish
19·2 years agoDon’t they understand that the problem with our education system is not that it doesn’t teach useful real world things - it’s that it’s so crushingly dull that it destroys any natural curiosity that kids have. This proposal will make that worse.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Fellow home owners, are you ready for the housing market to crash?
81·2 years agoIf you own multiple homes, then you can view all but one of them as an investment, as you can sell them when the market is good.
If you own one house and have a mortgage on it, then the market going down is bad because you end up with negative equity.
If you own one house with no mortgage, then the market going up is bad because it’s harder to upgrade. I wouldn’t mind my house being only worth £10,000 if it meant that I could buy my dream house for £20,000.
We do 80s covers, all sorts of stuff from Madonna to David Bowie.
I’m playing a gig tonight at a pub in Staines, then tomorrow I’m heading off to Gloucester for the rest of the weekend.

Technology@lemmy.world•Some veteran YouTube staff think Shorts might ruin YouTubeEnglish
21·3 years agoYouTube have such a stranglehold on the >1m market, that’s why they can afford to stagnate in that area and look into other markets. They don’t have to fear a competitor threatening their core market any time soon.

Experienced Devs@programming.dev•How much flakiness do you tolerate in end to end tests?
1·3 years agoThe problem with randomising the test order is that it compromises the reproducibility of results. If there are ordering issues, then your tests will sometimes fail and sometimes pass, but will developers look at that and think “ah there must be an ordering issue” or will they think “damn these flaky tests, guess I’d better rerun the pipeline”?

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Lightning McQueen is yesterday's Thomas the Tank Engine.
4·3 years agoAfter Cars 2 I had very low expectations of Cars 3, unsurprisingly. It’s a miracle that I was convinced to watch it. Yet somehow I was, and found it to be bloody good.

16·3 years agoBecause, of course, the things he’s been doing up until this point have been indicative of a balanced personality.
We don’t really know whether he’s out of touch or not. What we do know for certain is that he’s trying to get attention, and it is working.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Doing things in games because they simple feel good.
6·3 years agoCloudpunk has really nice atmosphere but is highly linear, almost to the point of belonging to the “walking simulator” genre. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but just don’t go in expecting much in terms of gameplay.

I am still using a dumb LG TV from the before times, and love it. I fear the day that I need to replace it.
