63·1 year agoI’ve said this before and will say it again. The only tech companies that should be allowed to buy Chrome are Canonical and its equivalents.

Technology@lemmy.world•France to ban students from keeping smartphones in schoolsEnglish
44·1 year agoYou compared smartphones to previous tech such as Walkmans, and I explained how they’re nowhere near the same in the extreme case (unsupervised access). No school is gonna confiscate the phones as long as the kids listen. And the kids need to learn to listen to parents and teachers. Discipline is sorely missing in the new generation. Look at that series “adolescence “ to see the real effects of giving kids a smartphone.
And jamming is expensive and ineffective (you’ll end up jamming nearby devices not on school property too).

Europe@feddit.org•European Credit Card and digital euro is coming, end 2025English
41·1 year agoNot all your money. Most people have more than 1 bank account. So this won’t change that. Also SWIFT transfers also include international transfers, and most people aren’t doing that outside of rare instances. Digital currency is only within EU regions, so this solution won’t affect non EU transfers. As OP said the goal is to reduce commissions to Visa and Mastercard.

Europe@feddit.org•European Credit Card and digital euro is coming, end 2025English
71·1 year agoIt won’t kill commercial banks because there’ll be limitations. Biggest is you won’t be able to take a loan from the central bank, which is the largest slice of the pie for any bank making money. They can also put other limitations, such as no non-EU transactions, or having a max limit per month.

266·1 year agoYeah I think the adverse effect of handing an iPhone to a 10 year old in Atlanta, when that teen is still highly impressionable unrestricted and unsupervised access to the internet is far worse than handing a kid a Gameboy on which they can only game, or a Walkman on which the worst thing they can do is listen to Cardi B.

841·1 year agoIt’s been pretty clear for sometime that in the US laws don’t apply equally to everyone.
Why should a politician convicted of stealing money ever be allowed in a position of power? Why not just ban her for life?

2·1 year agoHopefully the respective country’s embassy and place of work (outside of work, study I don’t see why anyone would want to go to that hellscape) can step in. Like check in with your significant other post landing when you’re waiting at immigration checkpoint. And if you’re not heard from after that, alarm bells should go off and embassies should be informed.

14·1 year agoBuy a burner phone. Use a newly created email. Don’t install any of your socials (not even lemmy).
Use only Signal (with messages auto deleted after being read) to be in touch with the really close friends and family.
Don’t bring your personal laptop.
If it’s a longish stay you may install socials a few days after completing immigration. But don’t use fingerprint or Face ID in that case.

politics @lemmy.world•The Big Question: would you still buy a Tesla?
111·1 year agoExactly, even minus the Nazi thing they are terrible products. And they’ve been terrible for a while. The only good things were the first mover advantage, battery tech and supercharger network.
Meanwhile the competitors like BYD have caught up.

Technology@lemmy.world•Apple sued for false advertising over Apple Intelligence.English
8·1 year agoThey really rushed the AI part cuz let’s face it, iOS hasn’t really innovated in a while. They typically wait for other makers to make a new thing (i.e. the swipe down to access settings in android), then take a few years to polish it.
Samsung and Google have been building AI models for a while, cuz they had access to tons of data. Post ChatGPT release Apple realised it’s suddenly light years behind its competitors. So yeah, this is likely the most half baked product Apple has ever released. Similar Apple Maps, but shouldn’t have advertised entire phones on these half baked feature.

Thank you for the quick response. All my questions answered.
