My response was to someone who claimed that the system has not fundamentally changed due to credit scores being introduced.
Yes, it is true this is how it works now, it is not how it used to work.

I am a feminist and some sort of left anarchist. I like video games, FOSS software, Lord of the Rings, math, and summoning uncountably many demons by digging too deep.
I am not LGBTQ+ but I try to be a good ally. (How’s my driving?)

I am not on our mortgage on the house that I own with my husband. I am employed, full time. At the time I had no debt, and the car loan was in my husband’s name.
They told me I couldn’t be on the mortgage because I had no credit score.
Neither of these methods work for links in post bodies or comments on iOS memmy, thanks for the tips though
Thanks, I’m on an iPhone (I’m waiting for an excuse to replace it for an android. So far it’s lasted 5+ years and it hasn’t degraded enough to justify buying a new phone)
Hah, not actually that annoyed, just being a internet goblin I guess.
Though, I was reading on my phone (client: memmy) so I couldn’t mouse over it to see where it went. I wouldn’t have clicked on it if I knew it was facebook.

Yep. Do you remember seeing comments/posts where the username is listed as [deleted]?
If you haven’t deleted your account yet, you can edit your posts to be blank/spam, then delete your account. If you deleted your account it’s too late to edit your comments.
That being said, if reddit is concerned with keeping old comments to sell for AI training, I’m not sure this will stop them. This will stop other visitors to reddit from reading what you wrote, though.
I didn’t need to do this (I rarely posted) so I have no recommendation for tools to help, sorry.
there is a Facebook link in the body of this post and I clicked on it

I’m still trying to figure that one out. I must not have listened to them that closely? I haven’t listened to that album in like a decade. Somehow they’re one pixel higher than Ye.
Deathgrips placement seems right though, and Joy Division, Godspeed! and Weezer (I don’t care for weezer tho). I haven’t heard the other bands enough to have an opinion. I should probably listen to more Radiohead….

Friend,
You wrote a phrase with a hyphen in it. It doesn’t roll off the tounge, it is like a rock in a shoe. The person you are responding to did not like your phrasing (a bit fussy of them, honestly) and you responded with a book and a graph.
This is not how you persuade people. It is kind of funny to watch happen, though.
I think I’m due for a hot drink and a nice walk.

The US is very dysfunctional for anyone but the upper middle class. We all see our taxes taken out of our check, and the services provided to us are very limited: no working healthcare system, limited affordable housing, abusive elder care industry, few social safety nets, student debt & cost of education, etc.
One party (Republicans) is convinced the government is broken (it has lots of problems) and their solution is to… break it more. They throw a lot of red meat to their voters (hatred toward minorities, LGBTQ+) to keep them energized and distracted. They also seem to be literal fascists lately, and are breaking our voting systems through pushing misinformation to make people distrust our institutions.
The other party (Democrats) ignores their progressive supporters and pushes milquetoast half-meassures to solve problems. They are weak, inept. However, they aren’t interested in literally erasing LGBTQ+ people or marginalizing racial minorities. Nor are they interested in breaking our democratic processes.
Corporate-owned media has been pouring gasoline on this trash fire the whole time. I hate people who do this whole “both sides” shtick (Because the parties are not the same, it’s fascism vs a party that still seems to believe in democracy), but that’s what I think of when I see things like this . This is an article about how right wing talking heads are pushing some conspiracy about Taylor Swift and the Super Bowl, and it appeals to that part of my brain who wants to laugh at dumb people who disagree with me. But I have to point out, nobody actually cares.
People are lonely and bored and are making how they vote into rooting for some sort of sports team. You can see it in the replies to your post: someone called the right wing a “cult”. I’d like to say there is some grand conspiracy where corporations are dividing the working class but the truth is probably far more bland: Rage gets clicks, and this is dividing us. It’s not hard to do because the USA is a very flawed place with a lot of wealth inequity.
Can you explain the first panel, then?
She looks like she wasn’t told this was part of their appointment. In fact, she looks unhappy about it. No context is explained to her and we don’t know if she would have agreed to meet him if he had asked before hand.
In this comic, she is being used. If you think this is OK just because she is being paid for sex, this is one of the things I don’t like about this comic. Sex workers share their body with other people, safety and consent are extremely important. Sex workers deserve basic human respect, which is not shown here
I totally understand all of this about the joke. I understand Tom Hank’s character is meant to be the villain.
The author drew this. He thought the world needed it. The objectification of woman is part of the punchline. This is why it’s punching down: The author used the objectification of woman (a real problem that woman experience in their life) to serve the punchline. It makes no real critique of the male character here, it simply presents him and his actions. Can you have bad characters in a non-problematic comic? Yes. Is this happening here? I’d argue no, because a misogynist can just as easily laugh at this comic for misogynist reasons.
I’m just pointing out the comic is gross. If you found it funny I don’t think you’re a bad person. I just don’t think it deserves to be here without someone complaining (which I am doing).
No, because the movie is about WW2. Nazis are part of the setting.
This is a “joke”, on my feed. There is no other content here. Tom Hanks was not cruel to women in the movie.
Unless you are implying that by viewing Lemmy I should get used to casual objectification of women for basic and old jokes, then I suppose that’s a great point, Lemmy is very much like that.
Edit: A better comparison is a racist joke. Even if the “butt” of the joke is “haha that guy is racist”, I don’t want the N word showing up on my feed, either.
I’m just going to come out and say it: this joke is old and the comic is gross.
A woman is literally objectified here. That’s the punch line. He wants to use this woman like he used an object. In the movie he did not fuck the volley ball so the humor is supposed to be from the shock.
Please don’t explain to me how she’s a prostitute. You can see in the comic she’s surprised/unhappy. Sex workers deserve respect. This comic feels like punching down.
If you type me a book about how I’m wrong, I’m not going to respond. I can already see this has 500+ upvotes, my opinion is unpopular I know.

This is a feature for many of these respondents, not a bug.
Why would you bother to resurrect the corpse of a cartoon long dead that children don’t care about and then fail to put the titular character in?
People only cared about the dog, and maybe Shaggy.
Don’t tell me you liked Velma. The only thing she ever did was lose her glasses.

My company also has job listings on its website that aren’t “real”. They have already been filled - months ago. HR is so dysfunctional it’s not on their priority list to take them down.
My managers get job applications all the time and sometimes forward them on to other departments that are hiring (because HR is taking too long to post new job listings)
I hate it here

If your water pressure is too high your faucet might have a hard water buildup
Our company phones were affected (both cellular and our ability to phone out or take external calls on our traditional phones). For us, the outage started at 4am (edit: this is just when my small department noticed, we’re not IT), could be that not everyone noticed.
