Going through the comments some people say downvotes are important for ____ reason, which is actually correct. But that’s not how I see it playing out.

And interestingly some comments, especially when you squint and read between the lines, actually show how people are misusing downvotes (I hope I’m not reading into it too much).

In any case when you look at how downvotes actually played out, perfectly fine posts (for their community) were being significantly downvoted. This is the right path, at least until things grow to be larger.

Going off my previous comment, I have a random thought what might be happening. On youtube (and I presume tiktok) when you downvote you curate your feed on what you like or don’t like. On those platforms thumbs down feeds into an algorithm that adjusts the content. People might think it works the same here, when of course it doesn’t. Just a handful of people that mistakenly think that is enough to be a problem at this point. Just another reason to get rid of downvotes if that’s possible.

Brigade implies an organized (one way or another) effort, which I don’t think it is. This is the result of people browsing ‘local’ and downvoting what they don’t like, when it’s entirely suitable for the community it’s on.
