Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Ex-CISA head thinks AI might fix code so fast we won't need security teams 😆️️
2·15 天前My naive hope is that local models or maybe workplace distributed clusters catch up and the cloud based bubble bursts. I am under the impression, that atm. a big difference as to whether a tool works well or not is more related to how well all the software around the actual llm is constructed. E.g. for discovery - being able to quickly ingest an internet url and access a web index is a big force of the cloud based providers atm. And for coding it has a lot to do with quickly searching and finding the relevant parts of the codebase and evaluate whether the llm has all the required information to correctly perform a task.

1·16 天前Mitchell Hashimoto writes a lot of Zig with AI (and this interview is almost a year old), see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQnz7L6x068&t=490s How long since you have tried tools? I think there has been some pretty astounding progress during the last couple of months. Until recently i did not use it daily, but now I just cant ignore the efficiency boost it gives me. There are definitely security concerns, and at this point you should not trust code that you do not read/understand, but tbh. i’m starting to believe that AI might (at least in the short term) free up resources to patch stuff and implement security features, that otherwise was not prioritised before due to focus on feature development. What it does to the IT sector in the long run - who knows…

1·2 个月前Interesting. They could supply my household for 20 years on a full charge. I’m missing a count on how many households they can supply with sun power during the night. Also how does this hold up vs. kinetic storage? (pumping water uphills) Seen from a global perspective storing power in li-ion seems bonkers, since it would probably drive lithium prices up to a point where it’s no longer economically viable, but ofc. they sit on much of the supply chain over there…

Well even very broken toes only get some tape and advice about wearing stiff shoes, so it would probably not have made much difference anyway. The one exception being large fractures involving the joints in the big toe.

Do It Yourself@beehaw.org•First time trying concrete mold. Too much water or too little vibration?
1·3 个月前I guess it’s because i vibrate the mold and not the mix directly as others have suggested

The next one did only get slightly better :( I vibrated it something like two minutes with the saw. Could it be bubbles forming from the mix? Maybe something about the plasticizer? Anyway i kinda don’t want to keep redoing this, i’m thinking about filling the holes and using it anyway, though it might crack due to freezing temperatures at some point i guess…
// Edit: specified that it was maybe slightly better

Thank you for the elaborate response. The second batch is now vibrated a whole lot more than the first one and i weighed the mixed beforehand. It’s just a premixed bag for setting posts i’ve used. 0-8mm. It’s really a pleasure to see the concrete vibrate into place. I am curious whether i’ve now also vibrated the pour down between the two parts of the mold too… We’ll see in a few days i guess.

4·3 个月前Thank you for the advice. Do you really think a toothbrush will work? ^^ I read somewhere that oil spray (you know for pans and stuff) was good, so i tried that and it seemed to work fine, the form slipped pretty easily.

I want to make a drain where this puddle forms, but stock drains from hardwarestores expects more difference in the ground levels. I only have a few centimeters to work with to a french drain around the corner, so i want the outlet to be on the side close to the surface. I have a drain grate that will fit on top of this thing.

Cool, i never really understood/knew the reasons for the Nextcloud fork. When you say ‘we’, does it mean you are affiliated with opencloud? What would my reasons be to use opencloud over owncloud?
