My plan is to hide appropriate but cheap lock picking tools, so I could get in if needed, but other people trying to break in have little to gain when finding it.
I have a lock box attached to a post under my deck with a spare key inside. Someone once pointed out that anyone could break it off with a crowbar and smash it to get the key inside. I pointed out that anyone with a crowbar and the means to smash a lock box open could also just smash a window and get in the old fashioned way.

And anyone who was gonna break in would already have the tools anyway.
They either have the skills to use it and brought their own, or they don’t have the skills and brought something more destructive.
